After coming to Kirtland, Joseph and Emma were welcomed into the home of Brother and Sister Whitney. They later moved into the Whitney's storehouse. We were told that the Smith's stayed in Kirtland for over three years before they were able to get a house of their own.
The Whitney Home
The ParlorThis room was where Joseph would spend most of his time while he stayed in the Whitney home. That means that it became the Church's Headquarters. It is also said that the first healing of the sick took place in this room. Sister Johnson had an arthritic arm and couldn't lift her arm up past her shoulder. After a blessing from the Prophet Joseph, she never had problems with her arm again.
